The Interlibrary Loan service at Biblioteka Pljevlja allows you to request titles from our partner libraries throughout Montenegro. This service is designed to enhance your access to a wider range of materials that may not be available in our collection.

To utilize this service, please follow these simple steps:

  1. Check Availability: Search our catalog to see if the title you need is available. If it’s not, you can proceed with the interlibrary loan request.
  2. Submit a Request: Fill out the interlibrary loan request form available at our library or on our website. Be sure to include all necessary details such as the title, author, and publication year.
  3. Wait for Confirmation: Once your request is submitted, our staff will process it and notify you when the item is available for pickup.

For any questions or assistance, feel free to contact our staff at Biblioteka Pljevlja. We are here to help you make the most of your library experience.

Making the Most of Your Interlibrary Loan Request

Interlibrary loan works best when a request is clear, realistic about timing and matched to what partner libraries can actually lend. A few habits can make the difference between a quick success and a long wait.

Give staff as much detail as you can

Besides the title, author and year, add anything else you know: the publisher, the edition, the translator for a translated work, or an ISBN if you have one. For a journal article, note the journal name, volume, issue and page range. If any edition will do, say so. Flexibility often lets staff find a copy sooner, especially for older or widely reprinted books.

Plan ahead for timing

Items travel between libraries, so they cannot be ready the same day. If you need a book for a school assignment, a thesis deadline or a talk, submit your request well in advance. When your notice arrives, collect the item promptly. Borrowed materials usually have to go back to the lending library on a fixed date, and that period may be shorter than our own loan period.

Respect the lending library's conditions

The lending institution sets the rules for its own materials. Some items may be for use in the reading room only. Rare, fragile or reference works may not be lent at all, or may only be sent as copies of selected pages. Renewals are not guaranteed, so ask early if you think you will need more time. Handle the item carefully and return it on time. This keeps the arrangement working for every reader in Pljevlja.

What is usually hard to borrow

Some materials rarely travel between libraries:

  • Reference works such as encyclopaedias and dictionaries
  • Very new titles that the lending library's own readers are still waiting for
  • Rare books, manuscripts and local archival holdings
  • Audiovisual items, depending on the partner's policy

For these, staff may suggest another option. That could be a comparable title already in our catalog, a visit to the holding library, or a digitised version where one exists.

To use the service you need a valid library card, so check that your membership is up to date before you submit a request.
